About Clark
Your Partner in Mental Health and Wellness Since 1971
At Clark Community Mental Health Center, we believe that mental wellness is a foundation for a healthy, thriving community. As a private, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, we are proud to serve the residents of Southwest Missouri with compassionate, comprehensive behavioral health and substance use services.
Who We Are
Clark Community Mental Health Center is dedicated to improving the lives of individuals and families through accessible, high-quality care. We serve people of all ages—from children to seniors—offering a wide range of outpatient mental health and substance use treatment services tailored to the unique needs of our community.
We are governed by a volunteer Board of Directors made up of local citizens who are passionate about mental health and deeply invested in the well-being of the region we serve.
Our Roots
Founded in 1971 as Barry-Lawrence County Counseling Services, our organization was created to meet a growing need for mental health services in Southwest Missouri. That same year, we were certified as a Clinical Outpatient Provider by the Missouri Department of Mental Health (DMH) and received our nonprofit designation from the IRS.
In 1992, DMH appointed Clark Center as the Administrative Agent for Barry, Dade, and Lawrence Counties—entrusting us with the responsibility of ensuring behavioral health care access for all citizens in these communities.
Leading the Way in Behavioral Health
In 2017, we were honored to be named one of Missouri’s original Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHCs). This distinction reflects our commitment to integrated, person-centered care and allows us to provide:
- Mental health therapy and counseling
- Psychiatric services and medication management
- Crisis stabilization and support
- Substance use treatment
- Case management and peer support services
- Community outreach, prevention, and education
As a CCBHC, we offer whole-person care that focuses on recovery, resilience, and long-term well-being.
Our Commitment
For over 50 years, Clark Community Mental Health Center has remained a trusted resource for mental health and substance use services. We are committed to continuing this legacy by expanding access, embracing innovation, and staying rooted in the communities we serve.
